Systems Administrator DevOps

To help continue fuel our growth, we are looking for an energetic, passionate, and people-oriented individual to take charge of maintaining and upgrading our information systems, servers and workstations. This is a great opportunity for a technically-savvy Systems Administrator looking to transition over to the DevOps space, or who looking to be working in both arenas. You will be relied on to provide solutions that will work not just for the current, but also for the foreseeable future, while balancing benefits versus costs in ensuring the most feasible outcome. We are a 24/7 operation that requires on-call coverage to service any technical incidents that may arise.

Systems Administrator Responsibilities:

  • Ensure that all our physical and virtual servers and workstations are running in tip-top condition
  • Perform technical support for staff in Vancouver and San Francisco
  • Proactively monitor all system logs (AV, firewall, VPN, etc) and raise or fix concerns
  • Architect, organize and maintain our information systems
  • Maintain an up-to-date inventory of all computing assets and costs
  • Secure all key PII assets according to our ISO standards and security policies
  • Manage systems backups and migrations

DevOps Responsibilities:

  • Maintain, operate, and improve a Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery pipeline.
  • Monitor applications and systems, identifying issues proactively and mitigating them to improve the customer experience.
  • Together with our Software Engineers and QA, you will share an on-call rotation and be an escalation contact for service incidents
  • Perform code and code and infrastructure deployments.
  • Communicate with key stakeholders on planned changes, incidents and service improvement plans.

Required Skills and Expertise:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent and 2+ years of solid experience as a Systems Administrator or DevOps in 24×7 uptime environment.
  • Solid hands-on experience working with and supporting computing hardware and VMWare, and setting up networking equipment (firewall, routers, switches, VLANs, DNS, DHCP, NAT)
  • Good understanding of Software Development Life Cycle, Test Driven Development, Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery.
  • Good understanding and experience working with high availability, high performance, multi-data center systems and hybrid cloud environments.
  • Comfortable with Agile methodologies and working closely within small teams.
  • Experience in roles of release & build operations, DevOps, managed large-scale infrastructure, etc.
  • Strong experience with deploying and managing SaaS and other hosted products and environments.
  • Proven knowledge of networking concepts and software architectures for performance, scalability and high availability - experience developing and deploying software products is a very strong asset.
  • Strong scripting skills - deployment automation and configuration management experience with tools like PowerShell, TeamCity, Octopus Deploy, Chef, Puppet, or Ansible.
  • Strong communication skills verbal and written with the ability to build relationships and influence.
  • Clear customer focus and understanding how their actions directly impact the experience our customers receive.
  • Outstanding knowledge of modern Linux or Windows Server operating systems, preferably in an online, customer facing environment.
  • Knowledge of administration of  MySQL.
  • Extensive experience in cloud technologies like Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure etc., will be a very strong asset.
